All About Our Backyard Buddy Side by Side Lift

The Revolutionary Side by Side Lift: A Game-Changer for Home Garages

The Backyard Buddy Side by Side lift is a revolutionary solution for homeowners with 16-foot-wide single garage doors. Instead of dealing with two separate lifts with posts in the middle to navigate between, this system allows you to raise two cars up while parking your daily drivers underneath.

Let me share some key features and benefits of this impressive unit. First, it's a 10,000-pound capacity lift, meaning you can put two 5,000-pound cars on there. You don't necessarily need to use both sides for cars - you could put one car on one side and use the other side as a mezzanine with decks to store things like lawn mowers, snowmobiles, or other garage items, helping to clear up floor space below.

One unique feature you'll notice is the crown in the crossbar - there's about a one-and-a-half-inch bow designed into it. Like what you see in semi-trailers on the road, this crown levels out perfectly when loaded. We're the only company incorporating this design, ensuring you'll never experience sagging or bowing when your cars are on the lift.

Premium Features

The lift comes with 48-inch aluminum ramps instead of standard 36-inch ones. We use longer ramps because we have a taller cross beam, ensuring even low-profile vehicles like Corvettes can drive up without any drag. You also get eight aluminum stops that can be inserted once you're on the lift, preventing any possibility of rolling off either end - there's no designated front or back, so you can drive on from either direction.

With your purchase, you'll receive:

  • Four plastic drip trays to protect bottom cars from any leaks
  • Three aluminum deck walkways, making it easier to access your car once it's on the lift
  • Additional set of drip trays
  • One set of 48-inch aluminum ramps

Superior Construction

What sets Real Garage Life apart is our commitment to robust construction. We use significantly more steel in our lifts, making them heavier and sturdier. Our outside slider design features a square 6x6 sleeve of steel wrapping around a 5x5 post, eliminating wiggle and wobble that you might find in C-channel designs with open sides.

The safety features are equally impressive. We use three-quarter inch steel locks that function like deadbolts, engaging directly into the post. With downward pressure and a stop plate, it's the best lock system on the market today. Our inch-and-a-half axles are the biggest in the industry, secured with snap rings to prevent displacement.

Technical Specifications

For those planning their garage space:

  • Width: 17 feet 5 inches (outside base plate to outside base plate)
  • Length: 17 feet exact (base plate to base plate)
  • Post height: 8 foot 9 inches
  • Clearance underneath: 6 foot 11 inches when on top lock

The base plates are 12x12 inches and 5/8 inch thick, providing a solid foundation that prevents warping during welding. While the lift can be anchored to the floor, it's designed to be freestanding. The crossbar uses 2x5 tubing reinforced with angle iron on both sides for superior strength across the 16-foot span.

Innovative Track Design

Our tracks feature a welded internal rail running end-to-end, serving two purposes: it prevents sag and flex while also providing smooth rolling support for our jack trays. Unlike top-mounted angles that can bind or interfere with wide tires, our design allows easy sliding. We've even included a drain in the middle of the jack tray for easy fluid removal.

Safety First

The locking system is a crucial safety feature. With a single-point lock handle, you can operate all four locks simultaneously. The three-quarter inch steel locks engage automatically as the lift rises, and when lowered onto the locks, downward force and stop plates ensure complete security. Our outside slider design prevents any lateral movement while locked.

We've also incorporated cable keepers - bolts running alongside the pulleys that prevent cables from jumping off track, a common cause of cable damage. Additionally, we use half-inch cables and larger 5-inch pulleys for enhanced durability. A built-in flow restrictor in the cylinder controls lift speed and provides emergency protection in case of hose failure.
